The Hero 9 Black was my first upgrade since my original Hero 4 Black from a number of years ago. I don't know about the Hero 9, but the Hero 8 has a bunch of holes and I've literally dragged it through saltwater with a selfie stick (to get footage of soem fish) while Kayaking and the mic quality/camera has stayed totally fine.
